Also I would add that not having the reflective part of a memoir indicates shallow thinking and/or arrested development, because what do you mean decades have passed and you have no new insights?

Or what you’ve learned since then doesn’t fit with the narrative you want to push…

I think it’s high time people understand that Persepolis is an accounting from the point of view of a privileged kid caught up in complex circumstances beyond her understanding and not a historical/political analysis of what happened in Iran.

This is also why reflection is so important to any kind of memoir. There is the linear narrative of what happened and what you thought then and then the psychological narrative of what you know now looking back. The best memoirs are able to weave both together in compelling ways.
