when I was younger punchline rap was the most impressive to me guys like Fab, Jada, Cassidy, Lil Wayne etc.
And then I realized there was levels to rapping after really digging into Nas, Andre 3000 or hell even Jay-Z. When I was in middle school/high school you couldn't convince me Wayne wasn't better than Hov.
Now I think that take is idiotic
@theboyillinois Lyrical = the substance of the writing.
Technical = the mechanics of how the bars are built.
PAC is lyrical not technical
Lupe is both
Hov is both
Chuck d is lyrical not technical
Lupe Fiasco clears up the narrative after social media took his comments about Nas out of context during his appearance on @Culture_United

I NEVER LISTENED YOU LUPE FOR PUNCHLINES
THE GREATEST WRITERS IN HIP HOP HISTORY DON’T HAVE TO RELY ON PUNCHLINES WHICH ARE MORE OF
A SHOCK VALUE CROWD PLEASER
“EXPLOSION SCENE” IN A FILM
THAT AUDIENCES CAN’T KEEP UP WITH DIALOGUE
THE GREATEST WRITERS LIKE
NAS
LUPE
JAY ELEC
GZA
3000
KENDRICK
2PAC
DAT BOI VIC
AND THE LIST GOES ON
DON’T NEED PUNCHLINES EVERY OTHER BAR
BECAUSE 16 AIN’T ENOUGH!
IN A 16 WE WANT TO TALK TO YOUR SPIRIT! NOT IMPRESS YOU WITH
PUNCHLINES THAT YOU WILL OUT GROW AS YOU MATURE
LOVE LUPE BUT I HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH MY FAVORITE MC AT THE MOMENT
PUNCHLINES ARE MOSTLY FOR BATTLE RAP
THE GREATEST WRITERS
IN RAP THE BLACK SHAKESPEARES
THE BLACK BOB DYLANS
DON’T NEED THAT!
WE TALK TO THE SPIRIT!!
A PUNCHLINE CAN’T DO THAT
Honestly you only need 2 albums. OutKast could’ve only made Aquemini and Stakonia and I would’ve still thought they’re untouchable. Biggie’s 2 makes him untouchable. GKMC and TPAB alone make Kendrick goated. If all Jay Z made was RD and BP, I would still say he can’t be touched
Michael Jordan said, “The stats that matter to me are games we win and rings we collect.
If I played for stats, I’d still be chasing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record. That doesn’t drive me. It’s all about winning championships and winning.”
