If you see a teammate behaving below the standards you’ve all agreed upon and you don’t confront it, you…yes, YOU are part of the problem on your team.
Great teammates model high standards AND confront teammates who choose not to operate at those high standards!
Be Great!
What is the Positivity Principle?
Positivity is a choice, not just a feeling.
It’s the mindset that turns obstacles into opportunities, setbacks into comebacks, and challenges into growth.
Focus on what you can control, and let positivity be your fuel.
@WyndhamHotels I just experienced this @JerrySeinfeld moment at AmericInn. Imagine our disappointment after driving 10+ hours across Montana where there is no cell service. Please review your processes & contact customers 24 hrs in advance and not 3.5 hours before check-in.
Character influences Character!
One of the most important pieces of advice I was ever given had to do with spending time with those willing to call me out on my weaknesses rather than feed them!
The friends who model self-discipline and growth over instant gratification; AND, are willing to encourage you in these things too are GOLD!
Too often, I see leaders who struggle with things like anger, attitude, arrogance or addictions gravitate toward others who have the same struggles. They feed each other’s weaknesses rather than fight them.
And, they typically do this under the guise of “acceptance.”
BS! Stop deceiving yourself! Misery loves company and weakness feeds weakness!
Reality is, these “friends”love themselves more than you. This is evidenced by their willingness to feed things in your life that are destructive rather than productive.
Make no mistake, “bad company corrupts good character!”
If you truly want to be your best as a leader, be intentional about the people you’re spending the most time with.
Choose people who’ve gone before you, and are living in a way you want to live someday.
People who are humble, wise, and love you enough to confront you.
Finally, choose people who consistently live counter to destructive cultural norms and model a higher standard of living for the purpose of their impact on others!
Remember, the strength of your leadership always follows the strength of your character!
Be intentional!
Choose wisely!
9 Lessons from March Madness Underdogs We Can All Use:
1) They live by the mantra: Believe or Leave
2) They use their timeouts to calm down, rest, and/or strategize… not to ruminate over mistakes or live in the past.
3) They break the entire game down into mini, 4-minute games. They only aim to win ‘the next 4 minutes’… not the game.
4) They don’t worry about the play that just happened, they are focused on The Next Play (the one in front of them).
5) They have incredible Bounce Back ability (they respond well after a turnover or missed shot).
6) They know basketball is a rhythm game. Their team’s goal is to ‘establish ours and disrupt theirs.’
7) They live off of momentum… and they create it by doing the little things: boxing out, sprinting the floor, making the extra pass.
8) They acknowledge that it doesn’t matter WHO scores, all that matters is that WE score.
9) They are crystal clear on what they do well and what their strengths are… and they stick to their game plan.
Super B-Day to Darryl Strawberry, who is recovering from a heart attack that he suffered yesterday. My all-time favorite swing. A man who didn’t get enough from his Hall of Fame talent due to drug abuse but who persevered to become a Hall of Fame person. Get well soon, Straw.
Control what you can control.
Keep your emotions in check.
Live the standard, not your situation.
Own your response.
Forget the last play, play the next play.
Leaders can’t just preach it, they must live it and empower others to live it.
Be the standard.
@IowaChill I see that our #Iowa weather is playing the Powerball again (15, 25, 30, 47, and 53) and using all of its weather icons (snow, wind, full sun, and mostly cloudy). #IowaProblems
Here's another round of applause👏to @chloewierson for reaching another milestone this season, scoring her 1000th career point during our regional game on Thursday night! Congratulations on this remarkable achievement! @IGHSAU Well done! #RAISE#Together
An unwillingness to listen or be confronted about shortcomings flows from a place of insecurity.
Insecurity wreaks havoc on a team…especially when coming from the top!
Leaders, model what you want to see from those you lead!
Listen, invite honest feedback…and respond!
