Many more (already hundreds of thousands if not millions) will find bills on their doorsteps in the NY. Politics has been frenetic in 2021 but this issue is a drum beat, there all year, gradually getting louder. It’s one of the biggest public policy failures of recent decades.
Worth remembering that the legion of people affected by the fire safety scandal are facing another Christmas in unsafe buildings, deep uncertainty, financial ruin or all three. One told me this morning: “I really thought something would happen before Christmas.” But here we are.
Tonight on Newsnight I'm again returning to Transport House to report on their journey and a problem afflicting thousands of leaseholders across the country: missing documentation and authorities who can't or won't provide it. It's a huge part of the building safety crisis.

Thank you @benosullivan92 & @SiCurtis87 for sharing the awful situation @XQ7Building residents are in following this latest fiasco, as the Govt struggles to cope with the BSF applications.
The only thing @luhc is doing "at pace" is ruining people's lives.

Residents trapped in unsafe flats in Salford are facing cladding bills of up to £20k, after the Government withdrew its funding approval due to an 'error.' @News_Fletch has the latest.

This @PeteApps story is nuts🤯Imagine being told that your full £10.5m cladding bill was covered by the building safety fund. Then, months later, it is revealed that an error has been made and the full bill isn't actually covered.....and you now owe £20k https://t.co/p1V3Dh70Sm
@JSimpsonjourno@PeteApps Nuts is the politest way to put it 😔
We heard the initial "good news" in April & we were so happy for @XQ7Building residents given hardly any buildings receive full funding. Sadly, the Kafkaesque process being run by @luhc is unfit for purpose & is only adding to people's pain.
With the government casually withdrawing full funding, many of us residents at @XQ7Building are now in an even worse position than before. Career, financial and lifestyle commitments were made months after full funding was provided in writing by @luhc #EndOurCladdingScandal
Difficult to comprehend just how it would feel to be advised you'll receive full funding in April only to then be told this was an "error".
@luhc is clearly struggling with the BSF applications; the delays & mistakes are only adding to our misery.
Please step in @michaelgove 🙏
@michaelgove it’s a real shame that you also found time to go clubbing but couldn’t find time to accept our offer to meet residents who spend their evenings worrying about how they’ll find money to pay their bills of £10,000s
