@MikeBernersLee Important to note that the battle may not be over yet. Although the government are withdrawing their defence, West Cumbria Mining are apparently still intending to contest the @slacctt / @friends_earth appeal at the High Court this week.

GOOD NEWS: UK govt will NOT defend plans for new Cumbria coalmine as it admits approval by previous govt was UNLAWFUL.

This is a HUGE win for Friends of the Earth and SLACC who have been FIGHTING this decision, let’s hope the court makes the RIGHT call next week

Fantastic News! Supreme Court rules that climate impact must be considered when granting planning permission. This bodes well for the @slacctt / @friends_earth challenge to the #Whitehaven coal mine (16th-18th July). There is no such thing as a "climate neutral coal mine"!
