The 11th edition of #NorwayChess takes place until June 9 in Stavanger, and kicked off yesterday with the opening ceremony and the traditional blitz tournament to determine the pairings of the main event.

World number one Magnus Carlsen, the winner of the 4 previous editions (and 5 in total), heads a field containing several members of the world elite. The total prize money contested in the 10-player round-robin event is 2.5 million NOK, while there also are #FIDECircuit points at stake, with clear first place earning 27,19 pts.

The opening blitz was won by Nodirbek Abdusattorov with 6/9, half a point above Alireza Firouzja and Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.

📅 Mark your calendars!
The 2023 FIDE World Amateur Chess Championships (Open and Women) will take place in Muscat, Oman, from November 1-11. FIDE and the Oman Chess Committee invite all players with a FIDE rating under 2300 to join the Championships.

What you need to know:
🏆 There will be separate championships in the rating categories under 2300, 2000 and 1700 elo.
⏰ The 9-round Swiss tournaments will be played with a time control of 90 minutes for the entire game + a 30-second increment per move, starting from move one.
📝 Register before September 1, 2023.
