Final Fantasy XIV is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 this August.

New players will enjoy one full month of free early access before the official service launches.

An active Final Fantasy XIV subscription will be required after early access ends, Nintendo Switch Online is not needed.

If you already have a subscription on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox, you will need a separate subscription for the Switch 2 version.

The good news is that existing subscribers will receive a 50%discount on the new subscription.

Japanese devs explain why adding offline support to live-service games after shutdown is harder than most gamers think.

The discussion started again due to a fan-made offline version of Square Enix’s NieR Re[in]carnation.

Programmer Itchie said: “Making it technically work and making it actually enjoyable as a game are different things.”

He added: “There is a strong risk that the game will end up playable but not entertaining, or that it will simply fall apart as a game.”
