You've been at this way longer than likely all of us new node-runners that came online in the last 9 months. We are not technicians but we are newly christened pleb BTC maxis bought in, and we need direction on all things BTC now more than ever.

We need the same sort of urgent direction on BTC that I was seeking and found during Covid.

My status with this setback: I have a Start9 Server One running Knots BIP-110 (right now), a miner pointed at the Ocean pool (never had time/bandwidth to understand the Datum setup), but I don't know what to with all this apparatus given 8/8 outcome.

I haven't felt like this since covid.

Couldn't do anything because you needed a vaccine pass. Excluded from everything. Churches, schools, restaurants, air travel etc.

Similarly my Bitcoin stack has ground to a halt. Money no longer moves.

There are no on and off ramps as there isn't an exchange in the world that followed the UASF that I know of.

Mining variance is similarly insane.

The explorers and wallets I use will all have to be updated to accommodate the fork and the ecosystem has largely ignored the fork.

Daunting, but I'm not alone in it. There are thousands of people dealing with it and they're the only people I'd want to be isolated with.

Facts:
1) Saturday, bad actors attempted a contentious hardfork with the purpose of forcing users to distribute CSAM. This spawned a new scamcoin with an airdrop (I call Bpedo).
2) Most formerly Bitcoin pools (a small handful of people) then began to attack the Bitcoin network to try to deceive the world into thinking Bpedo is "the real Bitcoin".
3) People who aren't using full nodes are easily fooled because they don't validate the blockchain. Upgrading to a full node (such as the latest release of Bitcoin Knots) will put you back on the Bitcoin network.
4) Community-led mitigations are in progress to overcome the ongoing attack on the Bitcoin network and restore it to full functionality. And update with these mitigations is expected by September 1st.

Do realize that Bpedo (or Corecoin, or whatever you want to call it) is _exactly_ what "Segwit2X" and BCash would have looked like if the miners went along with them.

It is in fact a contentious hardfork attempt. Are you just going to give in? Or stay on Bitcoin and fight?

I use the "72 hour" rule. When something happens I don't like (one of the kids quits their job in anger... I get a nasty email from someone...) I do not respond for 72 hours.

Some thoughts.

You don't quit when a fight doesn't go your way. BIP110 did not have consensus in the community.

Nothing in my stance has changed in how I view Bitcoin. Or how concerned I am because of the centralizing forces coalescing around the world's greatest monetary invention.

Or how I view defi and contract development around the base layer or the bloat of the network from spam and dust transactions.

What I am not happy about is the loss of progress in what I considered the most important aspect of being a sovereign Bitcoiner:

Running a node.

If nothing else, BIP110 and Core's incompetence and tone deafness brought a resurgence in individuals taking the bull by the horn and synching up a node.

That's a really good thing.

But with that I want to have an alternative actively managed alternative software protocol to provide node runners a choice.

In the fighter community, it's not just a slogan used in the TOPGUN movie; "Never leave your wingman." There is a reason for that saying.

To @LukeDashjr and @GrassFedBitcoin I will repeat what I said on a recent podcast. You do a post mortem and mission debrief. You stay in the fight because others are still here.

You don't leave your wingman still in the fight. And you get up and finish the mission.

Bitcoin drama just escalated.

Luke Dashjr is floating September 1 as a potential date for a hard fork that would change Bitcoin’s Proof-of-Work under BIP-110 — effectively creating an alternative Bitcoin chain.

BIP-110 author Dathon Ohm says the community is working on replacing the current PoW algorithm and removing existing miners, accusing major mining pools of colluding against the movement.

When asked who would secure the network after removing the current miners:

“We’ll get new miners.”

Bitcoin governance is getting very interesting.

The design of Bitcoin as described in the whitepaper is sound. All these problems are downstream of the Stratum mining protocol, that was invented a couple years later.

Satoshi didn't predict pooled mining, and the mining protocol that won the network effect race cucks miners and gives away all their decision power to the pool operator.
