A paper published in 2002 titled “Drug Use, Abuse and Alcoholism in #Zimbabwe” projected that by 2022 (four years from now), alcoholism will be Zimbabwe’s number one social problem.
An evidence-based public health-centered alcohol policy needs to be enacted without delay.
Representing @SAAPA_Zimbabwe at the SAAPA Zambia AGM underway in Lusaka 🇿🇲 (29–30 Oct). Strengthening regional solidarity and reaffirming our call for stronger alcohol policies that save lives. #StrongerTogether#SAAPA

We celebrate the bold and strategic action of our member, @YADD_Zimbabwe, whose 2025 shadow report has catalyzed a pivotal shift in Zimbabwe’s public health landscape.
As Africa’s largest tobacco producer, Zimbabwe faces a complex paradox; economic growth tied to tobacco, yet mounting health risks for its people. YADD’s report exposes systemic gaps in the country’s implementation of the WHO FCTC, from outdated legislation to the absence of cessation services and continued industry interference.
The @MoHCCZim has formally acknowledged the report’s findings and committed to establishing Technical Working Groups to advance tobacco control.

We congratulate YADD for its unwavering advocacy and evidence-based leadership. This is not just a win for Zimbabwe, it’s a powerful signal to the continent that youth-led, community-rooted action can drive institutional change.
ATCA remains committed to supporting and amplifying such efforts and building a resilient, African-led tobacco control movement that puts health, equity, and future generations first.

Support tobacco-free policies and quit smoking today for a healthier future!
Alcohol Causes Cancer. Alcohol is a proven cause of at least 7 types of cancer, yet Big Alcohol downplays the risk. No safe amount exists! It’s time to expose the truth, protect public health, and advocate for alcohol-free choices. Let’s act for prevention! #WorldCancerDay
By restricting advertising, controlling availability near key youth areas, and making alcohol less economically accessible to minors, we can significantly lower the rates of underage drinking. @MoHCCZim@ParliamentZim@WHO_Zimbabwe@njcazim@FORUT_No

We call on governments to hold the tobacco industry accountable, reject profit-driven solutions that compromise our health, & advocate for policies that safeguard both our health and the environment. Together, we can create a tobacco-free future #WNTD2024 https://t.co/zOsQtDnTcX
The tobacco epidemic is one of the world's largest, yet preventable, public health threats.
Not only does tobacco harm users & those around them, but it also harms our planet.
