Police 'quid pro quo' protection offers to victims of criminal exploitation need to stop. Not only does it outline that the victim's safety is contingent upon the value of the information they can provide, it exacerbates the risk and magnitude of violence toward them.

Those receiving Conclusive Positive Grounds (official confirmation of status as a victim of modern slavery) are offered no statutory support once they exit the NRM process, and are often left extremely vulnerable to further exploitation.

Modern slavery is on the rise, each of these statistics represents a real and traumatic experience affecting a human whose life is forever changed.

That’s amazing 😊 what a great gift! Unfortunately policy is shifting to make the NRM more inaccessible, which might bring the wait down somewhat, but at the expense of victims. Even so, the only thing we can see working is an evidence based national strategy that isn’t police-driven, doesn’t criminalise victims, includes parents, and does more to prosecute genuine perpetrators.
