If you’ve never seen Ran (1985), make it a priority. Akira Kurosawa’s Shakespearean epic is breathtakingly beautiful, brutally tragic and visually unlike almost anything else in cinema.
Very painful to watch . This is exactly what happens when the law is vague. If the law says people must dress decently, then define what decent means. we all come from diverse backgrounds and may have very different ideas about what may or may not violate the law. You can’t enforce a law on vague standards. Women are responsible citizens and should not be perceived as perpetrators of violence, we are partners of development and all we need is clarity. Whether we agree or disagree on the imposed standards, all we need is clarification. Laws should be sufficiently clear and predictable so that people can understand what is prohibited and authorities cannot exercise unlimited discretion.
This is what you are causing, the incels and red-pills and perverts have stood up, babonye rugari babonye uruvugiro…. Who do we even tag? Turaririra nde?
My awesome people at @bkarenarw, I can never thank you enough for consistently hosting amazing shows. Your event management is top-notch. Your engagement as well👏🏾
Now, it would be unfortunate for you to receive backlash from others, so one area that could make the experience even better is stronger coordination and communication with the other entities involved around major events. (All in general, but you can tag those at @visitrwanda_now@Rwandapolice for now; they are usually awesome at communicating things). Here are a few points to prepare ahead:
1⃣ Dress code: Is there an official dress code for the concert? If yes, please publish the guidelines clearly beforehand and provide a link so everyone knows exactly what is expected before buying a ticket or leaving home.
2⃣Refund policy: If a ticket holder is denied entry or sent back for any reason, what is the refund protocol? Are tickets refundable in such circumstances?
3⃣I once suggested digitising parking for concertgoers ( charge us extra if you want). Any progress? Coz parking and access should be part of the event experience, not something people have to figure out when they arrive.
4⃣BK Arena internal parking: Which ticket categories qualify for internal parking: Lower Seating, Premium, CIP, or others?
5⃣Amahoro Stadium parking: Can other concertgoers park at the adjacent stadium? If yes, which parking sections will be available, and through which entrance?
6⃣Age restrictions: Is the concert open to minors? If there is an age restriction, what is the minimum age and what form of identification will be required? Accompanied or not?
Ahead of the Rema concert, it would be great to communicate clearly and early to avoid confusion and another unnecessary backlash. Mbese, simply tell us where to park, what to wear, who can attend, and what happens if entry is refused BEFORE we show up. 🙏🏿
Clear guidelines ahead of time protect concertgoers, organisers, security personnel and the Arena itself. We love the shows; now let's make the entire experience, from parking to entry, just as top-notch. 🙌🏾
No one is defending Vapes. And the issue is broader than mini skirts. You can survive inflation, sanctions and all that when you are alive and safe. When aba motards n’abafundi start harassing you and influencers justifying why it is okay to rape you, none of that matters.
The sooner yall realise we are not angry because it’s about “clothing” the better, kubona aho umuntu avuga ati byarangiye ibyo kubaha ijambo? This really is the start of our misery
The police might not harm anyone and might even repel this "Law".
But Perverts, incels and rapists now think that Harrassing, publicly shaming and taking pictures of Women is legal now, because in their mind they think The Govt is backing those actions.
This!!!!!
When the govt starts operating like this, the first effects are that the average citizens start acting the way this motorist is acting, thus any improvements that have been gained through the #EqualityForAllGenders campaigns are pushed back to square one.
Exhibit 1.
Motor drivers now feel confortable policing a women’s clothes and telling them that support for women’s rights and freedom is over. This is what undefined policies and gendered enforcement gives ordinary men permission to do. And it gets worse when nothing is done.
