6: So in 1998, Abdusalami took over, he signed an agreement with ASUU to stop the strike he met . Note that Enugu High Court said that ASUU was not banned by 1996 decree. In 2001, ASUU as usual resumed its suspended strike

5: Ayu abandoned ASUU struggle & caused vacuum and joined politics . In 1996, ASUU declared another strike . That time Abacha gave beth N5m - N8m to VCs to organize false classes to break ASUU

2: In 1980,ASUU declared their first trade dispute & made issue of AUTONOMY as the problem. Remember Uthman Mohamed commission report that OBJ set up in 1978. Dec,1980,Shagari approved that 6 ASUU members should be dismissed. SU judgement in 1986 reversed it.1980 struggle started

3: from Shagari to Buhari to Babangida, ASUU always used the weapon of strikes. Same song , autonomy and financial independence. Significantly, in 1992 strike , IAP ordered them back to negotiation table . ASUU was banned again on August 23, 1992.

Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was formerly known as National Association of University Teachers (NAUT) & was formed in 1965 (where were you then) . NAUT had members from UI, UNN, ABU, UNI - IFE & UNILAG. Fast forward, in 1978 ASUU came into existence.
