Today, YAA with support from @YDNetwork , convened a technical multi-stakeholder dialogue in Nairobi to launch the Kenya Country Evidence Brief on Digital Rights & Electoral Governance & advance conversations around proposed Digital Elections Accountability Protocol (DEAP).

Young people are not the future of accountability. They are already advancing it today.

At the 4th Accountability in Africa Public Policy and Administrative Conference held at United States International University - Africa, leaders from public service and civil society came together to explore the role of young leaders in addressing institutional gaps and strengthening checks and balances.

Joining the panel, our Programme Officer @stelcheboi shared practical examples of how young people are driving accountability, advancing inclusion, and creating solutions within their respective sectors.

A central theme emerged throughout the discussion: Strong institutions require intentional leadership development.

Programmes such as the iLEAD Fellowship continue to nurture values-driven leaders committed to accountability, citizen-centred service, and positive change across diverse sectors.

The conversation also underscored the power of mentorship, both structured and informal. Effective intergenerational leadership thrives when experience, innovation, and learning flow in both directions. While senior leaders provide guidance and wisdom, young people bring fresh perspectives, emerging technologies, and new approaches to solving complex challenges.

Perhaps one of the most powerful examples came from ELF-Africa alumna @CarolineKemei5, Founder of Ustawi Girls Foundation. Recognizing barriers that prevented teen mothers from returning to school and the limited awareness of the rights of children and girls with disabilities, she worked with local structures to create pathways that enable vulnerable learners to access and continue formal education.

Her story serves as a reminder that young people are designing and implementing solutions that improve lives and strengthen communities.

The message from the conference was clear: Young people do not belong on the sidelines of governance and development conversations. They belong at decision-making tables as co-creators, innovators, and solution providers.

At ELF-Africa, we remain committed to investing in leaders who strengthen institutions, champion accountability, and drive transformative change across the continent.
