On July 8, more than 100 early-career feminist economists gathered in Cali, Colombia, a day ahead of the IAFFE annual conference. The day opened with a panel on how feminist economics gets produced, defended, and passed on in contested political times, then split into six workshops covering care economy research, decolonial approaches to knowledge, publishing, and mentoring. Organized by YSI's Gender and Economics Working Group alongside the IAFFE Young Scholars Committee.

For nearly four decades, the Jornadas de Economía Crítica has been a home for heterodox economics in Spain. This year, in its 20th edition in Bilbao, YSI joined for the first time, opening the conference to early-career researchers from across Europe and Latin America. 155 young scholars took part, from PhD students testing first ideas to those finishing their dissertations, and the connections they built reached well beyond the sessions. @maxrego_ at @thehill reports that GOP-aligned groups have already outspent Democratic ones roughly 4-to-1 in the Maine Senate race last week. Tuesday's Supreme Court ruling removing coordination limits between party committees and candidates could push that gap further.

61% of Graham Platner's money comes from donors giving under $200. Nearly 48% of Susan Collins' 2026 money came from donors giving over $100,000.

The chart above helps explain why the spending disparity looks the way it does. Thomas Ferguson, Paul Jorgensen, Matthias Lalisse, and Jie Chen analyze the size distribution of political contributions in the Maine election.

Their analysis of the Maine race shows Platner raising in a pattern that closely resembles Bernie Sanders in 2016: virtually all small donors, essentially no large donor support. Collins' profile across both her 2020 and 2026 cycles is heavily dependent on donors giving $100,000 or more.

Less than 3% of Collins' disclosed money comes from Maine itself. For Platner, the figure is around 20%.
