@micro_fauna @Black_Ecologist I wasn't looking for one either, but I happened to find an excellent one with the National Research Council in a very exciting lab. Salary is comparable to early PhD in industry.
@BadMedicalTakes Either they’re completely ignorant, or they’re an immunology expert who is trying to say that vaccines can induce histone modification and differential gene expression in certain immune cells as part of their function. I guess we’ll never know.
@jaredbkeller Let's hope that their infection control training is up to par, and that corpsmen are diligent in double-checking that donor Type O- status is correct. Having a transfusion reaction on top of polytrauma would be what those in the business call a "bad day."
I'm happy to share our new paper in @PLOSPathogens describing capsule structure and innate immune evasion in Acinetobacter baumannii. The loss of a single sugar increases virulence and resistance to complement-mediated opsonophagocytosis.

@jaredbkeller If they’re trying to get imaging techniques established, they are likely far away from a workable technology. Cool, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. Also, remember that accelerated cell division is uncomfortably close to malignancy.
@Kazeself Skeletal structures are not the most efficient way to show a 3D structure such as a protein. The greyed out portions are included to limit visual overlap between the disulfide bonds and the amino acid sequence. In its 3D configuration the disulfide bonds are not as long as here.
@BradSpellberg Quite a few contradictions - is it hype and scare tactics, or nature’s way of thinning the herd? Too bad you can’t ask for clarification, and maybe better handwriting.
@SGaibrie This is awful. I used to be a medic at USMC boot camp, and there was quite a lot of malingering, conversion disorder, CRPS, and even a few cases of GBS among recruits. Not always easy to distinguish between them all, but critical to assume patients are telling the truth.
