@daveyjohnny987@JustJenRX Of course it's best to give it to them. Not only that, it's required by law in all 50 states -- at the risk of going to jail.
@daveyjohnny987@JustJenRX Probable cause is the reason for the legal traffic stop (speeding, no registration, etc.). I'll repeat:
GROK: "All 50 U.S. states REQUIRE drivers to present (or display) a valid driver's license during a lawful traffic stop."
@daveyjohnny987@JustJenRX I believe I said in one of my previous comments that we're talking about a "legal traffic stop". Typically in these cases where the driver (traveler) refuses to ID, they are stopped for no registration. Seeing a bad or no license plate is probably cause for a traffic stop.
@daveyjohnny987@JustJenRX You are confusing "stop and frisk" (Terry stops) with being stopped for a traffic violation.
GROK: "All 50 U.S. states require drivers to present (or display) a valid driver's license during a lawful traffic stop."
@JustJenRX I wish someone would explain to me how it makes sense to go through having your window smashed, car towed and driver taken to jail, rather than obtain and carry a driver license.
@daveyjohnny987@MadelineLenny@JustJenRX This has nothing to do with "stop and identify". Every state requires you to present you license during a legal traffic stop.
