Officials attempting again to install concrete barriers at the entrance of the designated Free Speech Zone outside Delaney Hall were again met with resistance.
Resolution: Officials compromised with protestors by moving the barriers slightly further back than initially placed.
🚨BREAKING:
This is what it looks like in front of Delaney Hall now. The city has installed jersey barriers along the street and also placing them on the property of Delaney Hall.
Walking back tonight from covering Delaney Hall, I noticed this on the road at the intersection of Doremus & Wilson:
“PRESS”
It’s almost poetic; after multiple journalists were arrested here only 48 hours ago…
Wednesday Update noon local time outside Delaney Hall.
The area is lightly attended by protestors & media. A protestor is outside the facility & a small group is gathered at their nearby tent.
Police try to move press further back as arrests are made outside Delaney Hall, journalist @JonFarinaPhoto ( @StatusCoup ) wasn't having it.
A superior radios in, "If they refuse to move, push them back yourselves"
FARINA: "Don't touch me. It's gonna be a big story, I'm live right now."
RADIO: "Tell that press right there they're fine"

Police want to decide which journalists can cover the Delaney Hall protests in Newark, New Jersey.
But if an officer can point at someone and declare they are not press, the First Amendment ceases to have meaning.

I have finally been released from jail.
Half my face is currently bruised and swollen due to getting punched in the face by one of the State Trooper Riot Police officers despite me fully complying, being face down on the ground, and having several officers on me.
I had tried numerous times to leave along with other press members, and even after they left tried numerous times to explain to police that I'm press, but they didn't care and didn't't allow me to leave.
My glasses were stepped on and broken by police (despite me pointing them out), and my phone, gas mask, ID card, insurance card, and all equipment that I carry when covering events (totaling about $2k including my phone) were apparently somehow "misplaced" when taken by police, so I have none of those things and will have to replace it all.
I'm currently on my second hospital visit due to the swelling on my face not changing much even though it should have by now.
@nicksortor has been extremely helpful and amazing with helping me out after my release, so I'm very grateful for that.
The police explicitly said that press can stay after the curfew so long as they're not engaging in any illegal activity.
The time that they told press to leave was when they were kettling everyone in, at which point I had attempted to leave with the other press members, but police refused to allow me to leave.
It's kind of interesting to see how I'm getting support for what happened to me from people on both the Right and the Left, and at the same time I'm also getting hate for what happened to me from people on both the Right and the Left.
So far so good…
1. The protestors have returned to Delaney Hall.
2. ICE operations are running unobstructed & supported by Newark Police.
3. Nearby traffic is flowing unimpeded.
Community leaders are here for support & the environment is peaceful, a win for all involved.
The protestors are back outside Delaney Hall.
The steel barricades have been replaced by a concrete barrier; protestors remain inside the barrier while credentialed press are setup across the street.
