This is a story of how a single scientific innovation can improve the lives of citizens.
This evening, ahead of International Labour Day, I toured several factories to appreciate and recognize the heroes creating jobs for our young people.
I fully support H.E. President @KagutaMuseveni’s visionary leadership and strategic investment in medicine production and Uganda’s pharmaceutical manufacturing sector, following my visit to Dei Biopharma in Matugga.
Together with Hon. Dr. @DrMusenero , we toured the emerging drugs and vaccines plant and were impressed by the progress in construction and installation of advanced manufacturing equipment.
We noted that 10 drugs are already on the production line and on the market, having passed NDA certification. In addition, over 100 patented formulations are ready for production upon completion of the facility. These include cancer drugs, malaria treatments, sickle cell disease medicines, hypertension and diabetes drugs, and over 10 approved vaccines.
We were warmly received by the firm’s founder, Dr. Matthias Magoola.
I strongly encourage leaders and citizens to support this transformative industrialization agenda lets invest in this scientific factories . Sustainable development depends on long term investment in industry, innovation, and self reliance.
Globally, industrialization has been driven by decisive leadership and clear policy direction:
China leader Deng Xiaoping (1978 reforms) launched opening up and large scale industrial modernization that transformed China into a global manufacturing power.
Singapore leader Lee Kuan Yew (1960s–1980s) implemented export led industrial policies that built a world class manufacturing and logistics hub.
India leaders P. V. Narasimha Rao (1991 reforms) and Dr. Manmohan Singh introduced liberalization policies that accelerated industrial and economic expansion.
Rwanda President Paul Kagame (2000s–present) prioritized infrastructure, ICT, and industrial development under Vision-based planning.
Ethiopia PM Meles Zenawi (2000s–2012) championed state led industrial parks and manufacturing led growth.
These examples demonstrate that visionary leadership and sustained investment in industry are key drivers of national transformation.
May God bless Uganda and our visionary leader, General @KagutaMuseveni .
Glad that the 22 Dec 2022 State House meeting, where I presented the scientists & Your Excellency asked key questions on the vaccine, has led to this milestone. You supported the team and directed the Ministry of Finance to provide the necessary funding.~ Hon. Frank K Tumwebaze,
