I think This might be part of the background to Sheikh Jingir’s provocative statement. And truthfully, many of us in the North do not agree with using religion to support any government. It hurts even more when thousands of Muslims are being killed under a “Muslim-Muslim” administration, while at the same time hundreds of terrorists are being rehabilitated — something that goes against the very principles of our Deen.

Rarara has insulted me; he has also insulted Shekarau, Ganduje and many other people here in Kano. Yet we handled it better because we are politicians.

That is why we say: once you abandon religious preaching and enter politics, you should not still expect politicians to treat you as a religious cleric. What Rarara did to Pantami is only the beginning, it is nothing more than a welcome to politics.

Pantami once hurled all sorts of insults at me in the presence of my supporters. I was the one who asked them to calm down and not react. There was even a time when my supporters tried to deal with him in Kano because of the way he attacked my personality.

Pantami used to call the PDP all kinds of names, including “Al-Kafira”, yet he has now joined the same party and contested under its platform. We therefore hope that Sheikh Jingir does not end up like Pantami.

It has come to our attention that this particular video is one of the reasons behind Sheikh Jingir’s provocative statement that went viral.

Ironically, the video itself did not trend the way his statement did, because many Christians chose to ignore it since it was not made by a Muslim cleric. It only gained attention after Sheikh Jingir responded.

If we really want peace and coexistence, Christians need to check this bias. Let them also caution their pastors and political leaders to stop inciting hate against other religions
