The rage-baiting culture of performing for Elon’s payouts has landed this lady, Hafsat Abubakar, in the news and in hot water for fabricating or distributing a fake OPay shutdown notice. There’s no way she, a university graduate, didn’t know that the statement was fake, even if she didn’t generate it herself. She even stood her ground when she was warned to take it down, probably believing it was just another business day in the payouts hustle, where making wild claims without consequences had become a tradition. Some lessons have been learnt the hard way, and it’s a good thing that Elon has pulled the plug on compensating that sort of mental retardation.

Quite a number of social media users have been called out for such bad behaviour but refused to budge because it promised rewards, or because their victims had neither the resources nor the time to pursue justice. OPay just happened to have both, and that appears to be how this particular episode graduated from online recklessness to an arrest. I hope the experience serves as a path to the lady’s redemption. You can’t always trend hashtags for people who wilfully decide to be stupid.
