Doubt these prospective Asean envoys realise they will fail miserably unless they are willing to give up their existing lives, work 24/7, talking to everyone. traveling everywhere, to remote parts of the country; even then chances of success will be slim. https://t.co/OWEcIj6yWg
Been a while but the banging of the pots & pans are back in #Yangon as #Myanmar citizens show solidarity with detainees who staged a revolt in #Insein Prison today. They all risk getting into trouble with #military but shows their messaging more important #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar
Urgent international cooperation to address Myanmar's Covid emergency could (1) save 100k's of lives (2) prevent a country at heart of Asia becoming a source of dangerous future variants (3) be the key that rescues Myanmar from overall collapse. The window is weeks, perhaps days.
"Myanmar politician Nyan Win, a senior adviser to deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi, has died...after becoming infected with COVID-19 in jail." Thanks to the junta. https://t.co/3TQaXfTydp
I have no way of judging these numbers. But if true, and if Myanmar suffers a proportionate impact from the current Covid wave (as likely) we're looking at 150,000 or so deaths, making this the country's worst humanitarian disaster in modern times, exceeding even Cyclone Nargis.
Real situation in yangon...today.
Coup generals block for hospital entrance and oxygen refill...because they wanna use that facilities for army only...WTF...

Beijing was reportedly "convinced in advance of the Myanmar military’s intention to overthrow the country’s elected government" but "did nothing to prevent the coup in the first place." Now, why won't it press the junta to stop the violence and negotiate? https://t.co/LHI6uwFhuc
Rain is helping to keep 100,000 IDPs trapped by junta forces in Kayah State alive. But, they are running out of time as junta forces keep blocking food and medicine. Karenni people are facing starvation not because of anything that they have done, but because of who they are.
SAC military burned down a civilian village after reportedly clashing with local guerrilla forces. Old people and disabled people who couldn’t run away were said to be caught in fire. It’s time Security Council hold SAC accountable. Please invoke #R2P to protect the civilians.
