Dax Kilby has perhaps the best contact and swing decision skills in the NYY organization, but there was a desire to add more power in '26. The results to that were mixed. I break down why things didn't fully work in '26 and provide some optimism for '27.

@yaakovweiner I’m not gonna name all the names but I basically gave the sauce in the post.

These guys are able to blend traditional baseball hitting approach with modern analytics and open to using resources at their disposal.

The funniest part is that all of the hitters who are pro-data are either rookies, a catcher, or have been good hitters in their career.

This makes sense to me on top of how Matt Blake has a background in Cleveland (analytics heavy), considering how nerdy Gerrit Cole/Max Fried (the vets of their staff) like to get with their arsenal. Have to give Carlos Rodon an enormous amount of credit here too for the buy-in after taking a fat wad of cash and accepting the changes the org was trying to make. Same with Ryan Weathers (minus the cash).

The vets of the position player staff over the years on the other hand (Judge, Stanton, Rizzo, etc..) don’t seem like numbers guys haha. I think the buy-in as time goes on will get better considering how entrenched in data young hitters and MiLB players already have to be as they develop.
