@STLChrisH Not to mention if you look at your fully insured group, they pay crazy “pooled risk” charges. They basically take your high claimants, stick them in their own pool then come up with an arbitrary number to charge the plan for that risk. 2/2
@STLChrisH Not to mention on top of “forecasting claims” to that 110% (regardless of what they were), they’ll also slap on a medical trend cost increase so you’re probably more looking like 118%. I’ve seen groups with 60% loss ratios get slapped with a 12% increase. 1/2
@FreightBrkrGuy@skylarromines I tell employers to make this a voluntary benefit because of this reason. If you did the math you do not come out ahead 99% of the time
@skylarromines See if they have a “subscription”. Many are going to a value based model like this. Dental networks are even worse than health insurance networks sometimes
@STLChrisH Wish all of my employers were as generous as you! I’ve seen too many people stick with a job because of the health insurance quality/cost that it has solidified it to me as #2 to pay for the most part
@nebraskabryce Convinced $500-800k HH income in an area where you can get something like this, have space, have second home or vaca every year, and more control over your life is better than being packed into a city for maybe a $1m+ a year
@AustinLinney @STLChrisH Things I tell people wanting to change their health plan: get into arrangement that gives you transparency and control, manage healthcare costs, and align interests. Many strategies to do this. Happy to give you a few to ask your broker about
@Ins_Brkr@STLChrisH If you can go the captive route and find a TPA that will allow you to set up a level funded arrangement it basically mirrors a fully insured but with the benefits of self funding. Best baby step to get off FI
@STLChrisH Single best line I have heard and tell people: you cannot control the cost of health insurance without controlling the cost of healthcare. Rare yet cool to see a business owner understand this👍
@RoryTyer@STLChrisH 1. Get with a broker/advisor who can help u contain costs who’s interests are aligned with better outcomes for ur firm 2. Look at paying for the lower cost insurance benefits you provide (i.e disability, life). Lots of “bang for your buck” there
@HighyieldHarry Framework I’ve seen is saying you can’t pay THAT amt today and ask if there’s another amt they can do. Get them to a better # or just say what # you were thinking. Providers and hospitals have a huge AR issue right now
