The Union’s definitive position is clear and it is that we will ardently advocate that @NELFUND modularizes its verification process to be flexible and tailored to institutional calendars. This change is the only way these structural bottlenecks will be totally avoided.

BREAKING:
Panel Details Roles of NSCDC Commandant, Four Officers in De@ths of Miners in Niger State
An independent ministerial committee has accused suspended Niger State NSCDC Commandant, Suberu Aniviye, and four other officers of misconduct over the de@ths of detainees in custody.
According to the panel, the officers were accused of unlawful detention, failure to respond to distress calls, poor supervision and altering the detention facility before forensic investigations.
The committee also identified systemic failures within the NSCDC, including overcrowded detention facilities, poor record-keeping, lack of CCTV monitoring and inadequate emergency medical services.
The report further stated that 30 of the 33 deceased detainees had been buried before post-mortem examinations could be conducted.
Committee chairman Jonathan Kure presented the report to Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in Abuja on Tuesday.
HON OLUBUNMI TUNJI-OJO @BTOofficial AT THE PRESENTATION OF REPORT OF THE INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATIVE COMMITTEE ON THE REPORTED DEATHS OF 37 PEOPLE IN THE NIGERIA SECURITY AND CIVIL DEFENCE CORPS CUSTODY (NSCDC)
IN NIGER STATE TO THE HONORABLE MINISTER OF INTERIOR
The report contains 65 pages, with 46 of those pages constituting the main report. The remaining pages cover the preliminary aspects of the evaluation report.
*Investigation Overview*
Investigation committee was constituted by the Federal Ministry of Interior in sequel to a presidential directive to investigate the deaths of detainees in the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The committee examined the circumstances surrounding the arrest, detention, treatment, & deaths of detainees between 15 &17 September 2026.
The committee reviewed medical documentary and physical evidence, assessed compliance with applicable laws and detention standards, and determined both individual and institutional responsibilities.
Findings:
The committee concluded that the incident was a preventable custodial tragedy caused by severe overcrowding, unlawful and unconscionable detention conditions, failure of duty of care, disregard of repeated distress warnings, inadequate supervision, and wider systemic deficiencies.
Evidence did not support claims that the deaths resulted from a disease outbreak. Available medical and forensic evidence instead indicated that the fatalities resulted from an environmental asphyxia (acute respiratory failure caused by prolonged confinement in a severely overcrowded and poorly ventilated detention cell, aggravated by heat stress and dehydration).
