Working for a compassionate society through Education.
In a small Bal Mitra Gram village in Maharashtra, children launched 'Udaan' — an initiative born from their desire for self-defense training. While the local school offered basic education, opportunities for extracurricular activities were missing.
At a Bal Panchayat meeting, the children voiced their wish to learn karate. The Bal Sarpanch, Upsarpanch and other child leaders agreed — self-defense was key, especially for girls.
And they didn’t wait. They drafted letters to the village Sarpanch, Gram Panchayat, and the School Committee, and followed up relentlessly.
Their determination inspired the entire village. Soon, their voices sparked action. Karate classes began in the village.
On day one, girls in crisp uniforms stood tall — strong, proud and armed with confidence. The entire village and our #CompassionHeroes, the Bal Panchayat members, gathered to applaud them.
When children are heard, change is unstoppable.

In Kardelwadi, a small village in Maharashtra, chemical factories and costly market fertilisers were draining both the land and the farmers’ pockets. But the women of the local Mahila Mandal were not ready to sit back and watch.
They learned how to make Jivamrit — a natural, chemical-free fertiliser — through a local training, pooled their savings, and started production.
And in just two months of launch of Jivamrit, they’ve reached over 200 farmers, many of them women. “Last year, we lost a lot of produce. But since using Jivamrit, the quality of fruits and vegetables has improved so much. Women are now earning up to Rs 50,000 per month from their farms,” shares Ashvini Kishor Kardile, a member of the Mahila Mandal.
Their collective is now officially registered as Ratnaprabha, and they’re ready to take this movement further — scaling their work with government support and helping more farmers shift to safer, sustainable practices.
This is what grassroots innovation, and mindful problem solving looks like. These women are our #CompassionHeroes.
Compassion lies at the heart of global citizenship. In a world that is increasingly interconnected, we must globalise compassion—not just as a passive feeling, but as an active, transformative force of change. Today, while speaking with our state teams, a colleague asked me: What’s the link between compassion and justice?
After a meaningful discussion, we arrived at this: Compassion is the force born from the deepest connection with others’ suffering which drives the fight for justice.
The wait is over and Diyasalai is out! @k_satyarthi's autobiography is more than just his life journey— it’s the echo of countless voices, their dreams and struggles, woven together through his relentless fight for their freedom. #KailashSatyarthi@JaipurLitFest@RajkamalBooks
"The idea behind Diyasalai is deeply personal. I grew up in a home without electricity, relying on lanterns for light. A matchstick has the power to ignite countless candles & lamps. But it must be willing to burn itself." - @k_satyarthi https://t.co/lwYrbDy5yZ #KailashSatyarthi
@JaipurLitFest@RajkamalBooks

Join us on the #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour as we celebrate progress & continue the fight against child labor and slavery. Let's envision a future where every child can learn, play, and grow in a safe space. #EndChildLabour
Today, on #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour, my colleagues at @BBAIndia in collaboration with the @NCPCR_, rescued 74 children from four hosiery factories in Ludhiana. Child labour remains a harsh reality for many of our children and we must act with a sense of urgency to eradicate this crime.
Hundreds of youth leaders across the country are joining today to celebrate #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour. Join us #Live to hear powerful, transformative stories of children who fought against all odds to become youth leaders championing change in their communities.
Even as we celebrate #WorldDayAgainstChildLabour today, what strikes a jarring note is that we have failed our children. Though the Sustainable Development Goals were rolled out in 2016, child labour has increased from 152 million to 160 million. The international community cannot fulfill its commitment to eradicate child labour by 2025 until we are honest for our children. We understand the problems and we have also experienced how to solve them. What is urgently required is appropriate funding, education, social protection, and law enforcement measures.
Compassion is not a soft emotion instead it has tremendous power of social transformation to attain freedom, equity, inclusion and justice. It has been the driving force in my fight against child slavery. Following is the @htTweets interview by @cjmitra on my latest book - 'Why didn't You Come Sooner?’published by Speaking Tiger.
