Italy is opening an investigation into the captain of a NGO vessel claiming to have rescued people in the Mediterranean Sea.

This after suspicions the captain coordinated together with organised smuggling networks to bring people into Europe illegally.

If found guilty, this could mean 20 years PRISON for the captain of the ship.

There is surveillance footage from Frontex showing how around 90 people were transferred onto the NGO ship from a boat with five masked men in calm waters.

One of the masked men reportedly gave a thumbs up after everyone had boarded the NGO ship.

They were then brought to Italy.

For a long time, the media has said these NGO vessels are just working to rescue people in the Mediterranean, but now the captain of one of these ships is actually under investigation by authorities for working together with organized networks to bring people illegally into Europe.
