Year 1 had a lovely RE lesson with Mrs Coyston learning all about Islamic artefacts. They learnt how to respectfully explore, ask questions and experience religions that may be different to their own @AVPASchool
We've been learning about the different parts of the body in Science. One of our tasks was to draw and label the human body. Some of us were very ambitious and chose to write the labels ourselves! @AVPASchool π
We have been looking at spirals in art and have been exploring using different tools. We have used a combination of pencils, oil pastels and chalk. Some of us had a great time experimenting with smudging and blending too! @AVPASchool
We had a great time yesterday exploring the art of Molly Haslund. We used chalk at the end of metre ruler sticks to draw circles on the ground. We then explored kolam art and tried to make our own using resources such as string @AVPASchool
Yesterday in Maths, we explored representing numbers in different ways. We focused on numbers to ten and looked at them in numerals, on ten frames and with numicons @AVPASchool π’
As part of our Globe Trotters afternoon, Year 1 learnt all about New Zealand. They learnt lots of interesting facts about the country and Maori culture, including the Haka war dance. They enjoyed learning and performing the Haka at the end of the session! @AVPASchool
As a special treat with our remaining parent contribution money, Year 1 have had a lovely afternoon making butterfly tiles out of clay. They will be able to bring them home later this week @AVPASchool
Year 1 have been exploring different types of poems in English this week, looking specifically at Observational, Acrostic, List and Alphabet poems in today's lesson. They even created actions for their favourite poems and performed them to the class - well done! @AVPASchool
For history this term, Year 1 have been learning about famous explorers. In yesterday's lesson, they learnt about Neil Armstrong and produced some fantastic questions they wanted to ask! Several children had a go pretending to be him, whilst researching the answers @AVPASchool
The year 1 cafe was a great success today! The children did a fantastic job being waiters and waitresses for their grown ups and everyone enjoyed their sandwiches too @AVPASchool

Year 1 had a fantastic time at the Kapla workshop this afternoon. Their class was in charge of building a giant snake and they did a fabulous job. We can't wait to see what the whole school have achieved tomorrow! @AVPASchool
Year 1 had an informative and exciting trip to the WISE mosque this morning. They learnt about the different features of a mosque and why mosques are important to Muslims. Thanks to our parent volunteers to accompanying us too! @AVPASchool
Year 1 had a lovely treat this morning as we brought the ducklings into class! We watched them have a swim, and they all got to stroke them carefully too! @AVPASchool

Year 1 enjoyed a food tasting session today as part of their Design and Technology unit, where they will design and make a healthy sandwich. They explored what characteristics make them a fruit or vegetable and discussed how they are grown. Well done! @AVPASchool
