When I created Raspbian for the Raspberry Pi, I was excited to help bring low-cost compute into the hands of a next generation of tinkerers and programmers.

However, I now despair that a Raspberry Pi can cost upwards of $300 because AI shortages are making personal computing unaffordable. Furthermore, bright young people are being discouraged from learning programming because they are being told it is now a commodity skill that AI will do.

I have to ask myself what it was all for. Is this the future we were promised? If so, I'm starting to regret my part in it.

I just had a deeply alarming 45 minute sync with our Talent Acquisition team regarding their new AI-driven resume screening tool.

They reported that the software's reduced our time-to-hire by 60% over the last month.

I asked them to walk me through the specific algorithmic parameters they established for filtering out unqualified applicants.

The HR manager smiled and said they just told the AI to optimize for digital natives with high runway potential and a youthful energy.

I stopped typing and asked her to run a demographic report on every single candidate the software's rejected since September.

The data showed a 100% rejection rate for any applicant who graduated college before the year 2010.

I explained that automating age discrimination doesn't make it suddenly legal, it just makes it highly scalable and incredibly easy to prove in court.

Yelp is a scam.

I had 4.9 Stars with over 200 reviews for a small saltwater fish store I own.

Yelp calls, asking for advertiser revenue. I decline, we don't advertise (not that kind of business). Literally that week 100 reviews got flipped to "not currently recommended"

It dropped our rating from 4.9 stars down to 3.5 as they conveniently didn't recommend almost exclusively 5 star reviews.

I get ahold of someone at yelp, almost impossible by the way. And they say its due to review manipulation. No reviews were fake, none were manipulated and they were collected over years.

I get a call back from the sales rep. He forgot to tell me that if you pay the $700 a month to advertise you get escalated customer support for help with any issues with your account. I ask him if he is the one that fucked my reviews, he denies it.

Total fucking scam, blackmailing you to keep your earned reviews, what shits.

🚨 HUGE NEWS: Claude now embeds an invisible watermark into every piece of text it generates.

Anthropic just documented how it works. Two marks, both machine-readable:

> Text: an imperceptible watermark woven into the words themselves. You can’t see it, and it doesn’t change meaning, quality, or readability.
> Files (.svg, .png, .jpg): signed provenance metadata on the C2PA open standard, so you can tell if a file’s been tampered with.

The watermark is applied at the model level.

That means it shows up no matter where the text comes from: the API, Claude, Claude Code, Cowork, Claude Tag, and even when a supported model runs through AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Foundry.

Models launched on or after August 2, 2026 mark from day one. Older models are getting it during a transition period.

A indie dev has claimed Google’s Gemini AI revealed the exact name of an unreleased game character that only existed in a private Google Docs file.

According to the developer behind Operation Octo, a player asked Gemini about future content in the game. The AI responded with the name “Vantage Tripod”.

“Somehow, the AI spitted out the exact & highly specific character name ‘Vantage Tripod,’ which I had never mentioned to anyone.”

The developer says the name had never been shared publicly, posted on Discord, or added to the game’s files.

“The scarily accurate & very specific name ‘Vantage Tripod’ was never written anywhere except in my own Google Doc.”

After searching their Discord server history, he said there were no previous mentions of the name.

It's time to cut through the bullshit about the Cowboys tent. Stampede succeeds because Calgarians welcome millions of people into our city. That goodwill matters. A few operators do not get to treat neighbours like garbage and damage the reputation of an event that belongs to all of us.

By now you've seen the coordinated smear campaign from out-of-town politicians. They think you're stupid and want you to believe that we're somehow cancelling Stampede by asking the big tents to use the same rules in place at Coachella, Lollapooloza and all the other world class festivals.

That's the first piece of bullshit. We're not talking about Stampede at all. We're talking about a few off-site tents that have been treating their neighbors like garbage.

Here's the truth. In the last few years, the tents were given a special exemption way above and beyond what was in place up until about 2019. People living near these tents were told to call 311 and wait. Their windows shook and broke. Their shelves rattled. Music ran on weeknights until 2 or 3 a.m. They dealt with property damage, public disorder, and excessive intoxication outside their homes.

Thousands of Calgarians raised their concerns. And just like when we repealed blanket rezoning, the city chose to listen to the people rather than answer to the money.

The second piece of bullshit is that Calgary's rules suck compared to everywhere else. In fact, the changes are modest. There's no change on weekends. But on weeknights, concerts now need to wrap up by 1230am. Even with this change, it means that Calgary still allows outdoor music later than anywhere else in North America.

The third piece of bullshit is that this was done last minute. This wasn't a last minute change. The big tents knew in February that their exemption was under review. Cowboys was told again in May. Their exemption depended on managing noise, safety, and impacts on nearby residents. They did not meet that standard.

But what isn't bullshit is that as your mayor I'm fighting for you. I want you to know that a permit is not a licence to bully a neighbourhood. It is not a profit guarantee. I was elected to stand up for Calgarians, not to take orders from wealthy donors, lobbyists, or politicians protecting their friends.

I am more than happy to seek compromise and work with operators who respect Calgarians. But I answer to the nurse on an early shift, the parent getting kids ready for school, and the worker who needs sleep.

So no. We are not cancelling Stampede. We are protecting it. Stampede succeeds because Calgarians welcome millions of people into our city. That goodwill matters. A few operators do not get to damage the reputation of an event that belongs to all of us.

If you want to do business in Calgary, respect the people who live next door.
