Astro-Palaeo-Geo. OU: BSc Geosciences. Sci-Fi Fantasy Superheroes Football (Liverpool+Blyth Spartans) Music Whisky! Married. Dad to 2 boys. In my 2nd ½ century!
Today, our poorly cat, Monster, took a final trip to the vets for his final sleep. Near 14 years of fusses, scritches, cuddles, & trying to avoid the murder/ suicide pact he obviously had with me! We've buried him in our garden where he loved to soak up the sun & watch the birds.
Do like massive, terrifying fire-breathing dragons?
Sorry, I can’t help you.
But I have got books full of these little goobers.
Details in the usual places.
Clash of the titans.
Fighting animals, dramatic sky, lightning bolt… yes, I really am leaning into all those palaeoart cliches -because sometimes it’s fun to do the obvious!
Concept art for the book “When Archie Walked”, due for publication next year.
@M1ONLOVER So, what you are saying is, either:
a) Mercury & Venus are between the Earth & the Moon; or, b) the shadowed part of the Moon makes the Moon transparent!?!? 🤔
I suppose the 3rd light is the fabled 'lost', closest to the Sun, planet Vulcan!?
Stupid gonna stupid! 🤦♂️
🙄🤷♂️
I’m excited to be able to share this news with you all. I’ve been commissioned by University of Nebraska State Museum to illustrate a book telling the story of Archie - the famous (and largest) Columbian mammoth. (1/4)
@DragonsofWales But, it's those little, little details that you put into your work that makes it exceptional, & stand out from the crowd (especially the auto-dross productions 😉)! 🤩
Ponderings of a palaeoartist: In a world in which speed and efficiency are valued above all else, I am very conscious that my approach to my work (which is neither of those things) is increasingly anachronistic. But it is authentically mine and I have to hope that will be enough.
@TetZoo We have a beautiful Herring Gull (we've named Bob) that seems to be hanging around our small garden! It always seems to appear when we put unfinished cat food outside, no matter the time of day! 🤷♂️ If the stray cat is there, they'll 'chatter' away at each other until one leaves.
In case you ever doubted that art has the power to change people’s lives:
Several years ago, whilst bored at work, doing a job that was destroying my soul, I stumbled across this illustration online.
I now earn a living drawing dinosaurs.
Thank you Luis.
(Art by Luis V Rey)
@DragonsofWales@TetZoo 14 years ago, I bought this book (I know because Amazon, where I got the cover image from, is telling me when I last purchased this item 😄). @TomHoltzPaleo & @LuisVRey reignited my love for dinosaurs, palaeoart & palaeontology in general! Thanks, guys! 🤩
@BBCSport The USA is only 1 of 3 host nations. So, why can't he referee matches in Canada &/ or Mexico? @FIFAcom@FIFAWorldCup needs to grow some balls! 🙄
The Pharaoh. Spinosaurus aegyptiacus - a new private commission. The client requested that it be depicted as a shoreline ambush predator, rather than a more fully aquatic animal - a choice which very much fits with my own personal view of spinosaurus. (1/2)
@DragonsofWales 🤔 Not bad! 😜😂
I really love the small details you put in this; those very fine hairs & the irregurity & size variability of the snout scales (?) are brilliant! 👏 10/10! 👍
Would pet. May lose a finger or two, but probably worth it! 😄
Demonic Diplocaulus
A4 private commission for an illustration to be included in a new Silent Oracle RPG book. It shows a giant Diplocaulus that has fallen through the roof of a cave. In a nook on a stalagmite is the skull of a gorilla (it all makes sense in the game!)

I recently searched "goblin shark" on Instagram and was disgusted by the ubiquity of generative AI slop masquerading as actual footage of living goblin sharks. So here's a thread on how to spot the bullshit (examples below)
