I promise it’s not radical to believe that the cashier at McDonald’s should be able to afford rent and groceries with their paycheck.
That’s what a job of for.
The federal minimum wage is STILL $7.25/hour.
@davidsirota It would be nice if the people were protected for a change instead of always being left to holding the bag for wealthy people’s irresponsibility or worse, malice. The working class is near collapse due political cowardice and inaction.
@davidsirota Imagine a Party that didn’t hold Democratic primaries, not having a platform or thinking they don’t need to be accountable to the people… their disguise is very thin.
Candidates running for office offering no policy platform, not talking to the press, and communicating only by rally speech/curated social media clips/TV ads may win an election in the short term, but if that becomes the new norm I don’t think it’ll sustain the democratic society liberals insist they want (but maybe don’t actually want).
NEW: Candy giant Mars, Inc. is buying Kellanova, maker of Pop Tarts, Pringles, and Eggo, for $36 billion. It's the largest merger of the year.
The new snack conglomerate will be large enough to "resist any push from supermarkets for lower prices," Bloomberg reports.
Trump says he’s going to end taxation of Social Security benefits. Outflanking Dems to the left on it.
House Democrats have a bill to make Social Security more generous with like 210 sponsors but Pelosi blocked it from coming to the floor as speaker.
To understand this seemingly bizarre argument, it's helpful to remember something: Many folks on the right, from Trump on down, don't consider Bernie Sanders— or other Jews who care about Palestinian freedom— to be real Jews.
It’s incredibly frustrating and unhelpful that @nytimes and others keep repeating the dangerous lie that the only legitimate expression of Jewish politics is being hardline pro-Israel 🧵
Teamsters president at the RNC: "We need corporate welfare reform. Under our current system, massive companies like Amazon, Uber, Lyft and Walmart take zero responsibilities for the workers they employ. These companies offer no real health insurance, no retirement benefits, no paid leave, relying on underfunded public assistance. And who foots the bill? The individual taxpayer. The biggest recipients of welfare in this country are corporations, and this is real corruption."
Elon Musk shouldn’t have this much to give, and it shouldn’t be legal to give it. Legalized interference in our elections by the billionaire class is a threat to democracy.
Everyone who is part of this effort to ram through Biden’s nomination - despite every swing state poll showing him behind; despite elected Democrats objecting to him en masse behind the scenes; despite Biden himself deteriorating in front of our eyes - will never be forgiven.
@ShawnFainUAW Thank you for taking the courageous stance to be on the right side of history in calling for ceasefire, this investigation feels like a retaliation for that. I believe in you Mr Fain, #solidarity
