@gsoh31 It's such a shame to view professional services colleagues as adversaries rather than potential allies - these kinds of comments only serve to strengthen unhelpful 'academic' v 'non-academic' binaries, and make everyone feel worse about the environments in which they work.
@gsoh31 As others have said, the flaw in your argument is you're at once saying 'academics are expected to do all this stuff' & at the same time asserting (with no evidence) that prof services staff are increasingly responsible for 'controlling academics rather than supporting them'

A 'UEA scraps creative writing' story is taking hold. That's not what's happening. UEA Humanities are facing redundancies across many areas that feed a brilliant writing course (including Literature). That's *worse* in the long term because it's a culture / a mindset / a library.
@jonathancoe It is so short-sighted and wrong and deeply, deeply sad. The lost impact of the department, not just on students but on the wider region, will be huge. Solidarity to all colleagues affected.

With the support of @EnglishAssoc I have set up a forum for all admissions tutors in English in the UK. If that’s you, ask your Head of School/Dept to pass on the email message I just sent them.
