"Whoever is in your life,
those who harm you,
those who help you;
those whom you know
and those whom you do not know —
let them off the hook,
help them off the hook."

Poet and philosopher David Whyte, my creative counterpart and partner, has posted his new essay "Submit" on Substack. Shaped through our conversations, my editing, and our voice intertwined in many of the sentences that appear in the finished piece.
"Submission" is one of the most misunderstood words in the English language. We hear control. Humiliating defeat. But true submission is not the surrender of power to another person. It is the reckoning with what is alive, unnamed between us: between my freedom and yours, my grief and yours. The willingness to stop hiding from it. From each other. In the end, we submit to the grace of those moments of recognition: how abandoned we are by our own untested faith in the face of loss, longing, and real intimacy.
The beautiful question: What are you willing to give up for love, for freedom, for the self you refuse to betray?

Beautiful words from Pope Francis as we honor his passing:
"The light quietly shines forth, even though we are in darkness; the promise of new life and a world finally set free awaits us; and a new beginning, however impossible it might seem, can take us by surprise.”
May we carry forward his message of forgiveness, joy, and staying true to our highest calling.
