Chat-GPT is remarkable in many ways. We asked it "What is the best way to index a vcf file?" and it gave us a very useful answer. And then we asked it to rewrite the answer in the style of Chaucer... #chatgpt#bioinformatics
"First, Tabix, a tool oft sung, 'tis true, An index file (.tbi) it doth imbue. With swiftness, variants it doth retrieve, By genomic coordinates, it doth achieve. Through binning scheme, vast files it doth face, Thus suited for grand VCF's ample space."
Tangential tweet, but this web app that lets you mix-up different emoji is incredible. A sceptical microbe emoji always seemed like a missed opportunity... until now. In all seriousness, could be very handy for talks or teaching materials.

Super thread by Ewan, as always. Be very aware of the limitations of any method you use but, at the same time, don't dismiss the method *because* of those limitations.
Idly reading another single cell paper (it is ... impressive how the technology) and authors using phrases like "neighbourhood" and "close to" clearly refering the reader to the UMAP display...
We're running several courses through the year covering a range of data science topics. Open to everyone, York-based or elsewhere. *Pass it on*, or contact "[email protected]" for more info. #dataanalysis#datascience#bioinformatics
Delighted to announce the publication of this work from my PhD! We show that metabolically independent microbes associated with human gut “dysbiosis” may not in fact be causal of disease, but instead selected for under stressful conditions. (1/4)

Some rough-around-the-edges Python code that we wrote to draw out the exon structures of transcripts. We were using it to show transcripts assembled by Stringtie2. Contributions welcome! #bioinformatics#datascience
