Ballard, a former 28-year-old Christian private school teacher from Lakewood, Colorado, who was sentenced in January 2026 to 60 years in prison for the brutal sexual abuse and exploitation of at least 12 children. Ballard worked as a middle school "guide" at Journey Academy in Centennial and served as a church youth leader in Highlands Ranch, using his religious authority to systematically predatorize young students.

The investigation into his actions led to his arrest in March 2024 by the Parker Police Department after police executed a search warrant at his home in the 600 block of Alkire Street in Lakewood. Law enforcement uncovered a sickening pattern of exploitation carried out across multiple locations, including Journey Academy and the Journey Life Center in southern Jefferson County. The arrest affidavit detailed horrific abuse: Ballard inappropriately touched students, forced them to look at pornography, coerced them into recording explicit material, and forced children to strip and run naked as a form of punishment. In October 2025, Ballard pleaded guilty to two counts of 1st-degree assault with a deadly weapon with a stipulated sexual basis, resulting in the consecutive 60-year prison sentence finalized on January 16, 2026.
