@senatorlaughlin 2/ again, servers earn over twice the minimum wage (hourly wage plus tips) currently. An increase to the current tipped hourly rate is not necessary. A simpler solution is to add to e legislation that tipped workers must be guaranteed to earn at least the minimum wage

@senatorlaughlin 1/ Correct, your bill does not eliminate tipping. However the net increase a business like ours will experience per hour of tipped wage will be be $6.17 per hour. The net result will be an increase of $100,000 payroll costs annually. That will result in increased menu prices.

Our servers make $40 per hour include pre and post shift duties.

@senatorlaughlin Has your office completed a study to determine what the actual effective hourly rate is for servers and bartenders at various levels of service?
You will find that the rate is well above $15 per hour, whether fine dining or a diner.
Operators will simply raise prices = inflation

It’s ok to work an 8 hour shift at Best Buy or Christmas Tree Shop, but our servers can’t earn wages to buy Christmas gifts for their kids. It’s wrong. Show us the data and perhaps we will be ok with taking one for the team. Otherwise, they’re killing us - sometimes literally.

We’re PA COVID Compliant. Spaced and reduced capacity too. Customers tell us they feel safe. There’s contact tracing on steroids. We know they’re going to shut us down completely soon, but authorities have failed to share any data regarding increased spread in restaurants.
