A math department at a major university in the US is now offering a semester long course on “number theory.”
Yes, you read that right.
Number. Like 1,2,3,4….The things kids learn about in primary school.
The dumbing down of America continues…
This happened 16 years ago in Halo 3. It's one of the rarest things to happen in gaming history.
Player throws a sticky nade at an enemy, who catches it in his hand while throwing a frag nade back, making the sticky nade stick to the frag nade before getting thrown back.
Halo 3's physics are the best.
12 yo noticed that successive squares are separated by successive odd numbers (i.e. n^2 = (n - 1)^2 + 2n - 1) and was more excited by this than anything he's ever learned in class. I told him this is what real math is like.
My coworker is a React Native developer. He is insanely gifted. I asked him what it would cost to build this web page today. I will never forget his answer...
"We can't, we don't know how to do it"
@withoutboats Ideally this type would just be "type ListIter<'a, T: 'a, const N: usize> = impl Iterator<Item = &'a T> + 'a;" which is still verbose but a lot easier to understand what's going on.
If the evening news cataloged every worker job death in the country they’d have ~~15 PEOPLE A DAY~~, but it’s not a plane’s random nonessential panel or a tire so nobody cares. You can do panic bulletins for any industry. You’re just not told.
