Hey everyone! I haven’t posted in a while because I accepted a Professor of Speech position at Cumberland University. It has been great working with college students, but I sure miss my Professionals.
It certainly is not the end all or be all of communication. Simply a part…but a largely avoided part, and not well trained. Most people that I train avoid speaking in public until they are forced into a speaking situation, or they have something very important to share. At that point, it is really too late to hone this important skill. It must be developed over time. Does that help?
Should students learn advanced communication in high school? One public speaking class won't give kids the ability to effectively interact on the spot.

My students begin their final exams this week with their own extemporaneous speeches. Five to seven minutes on anything they choose! What do you have in your heart to share? What do you know that is worthy of being spread to a larger audience?
@Returntodustbnd@DannyWimmerPres@LTLFest What is happening with your show here at LTL. I was really looking forward to seeing you guys. Will you play anywhere else here this weekend?
Bringing my program to Cumberland University this year has been an amazing experience. Once the students realize the importance of communication in their lives, the phones disappear!
@Roy_Cam I like your perspective! Knowing your audience well leads you to speak about WHY you need a feature, rather than simply listing the specific sheet of a new product. He understood our pain.
With the iPhone 16 release coming up, I was wondering:
How many of you used to watch these events with Steve Jobs running the keynote?
What do you think made his talks so much better than the current Apple leadership?
