2002: The U.S. added ~58 GW of new power capacity. Nearly all of it was natural gas.
2025: The U.S. is adding ~63 GW. Nearly all of it is solar and BESS.
Same scale of buildout. Completely different fuel. The grid is reinventing itself
Just a reminder that Trump promised to cut your energy bills in half and now is actively pushing a bill that screws over more than 90% of planned energy projects. This thing will make it more expensive for you to run your AC or for any business to operate.
This bill is a real piece of shit it and it would be excellent if that’s all anyone talked about for the next few days. Super interested in your think piece about the NYC mayor’s race but let’s get to that after we try to stop the biggest wealth transfer in American history.
Really seems like there should be more coverage of the fact that Republicans are about to pass a bill that will cause the biggest spike in utility bills in American history.
According to the clean energy industry, here’s what the Republican tax bill means:
- 300,000 fewer jobs per year in wind and solar.
- 300 GW less wind and solar built this decade. This is several times more than what we add to the grid in an entire year and we’ll just lose it, as demand soars.
- $450 billion of lost capital
Meanwhile China will surge ahead. Loser stuff.
The Senate bill is the worst-case scenario for affordable energy: spiking prices, killing jobs, stranding projects, and doing nothing for the deficit. We urge pro-business Republicans to stand up for American prosperity and vote NO.

🚨 The reconciliation bill text released last night is a direct attack on American energy, workers & families.
Any Senator voting for it is voting for higher prices. And they’ll have to answer for it when families open their utility bills, when workers lose their jobs, and when voters head to the polls.

Edison Electric Institute estimates that the House bill will cost ratepayers about 60 BILLION DOLLARS. This is just an insane way to do business - to pull the rug out from under investors and screw people on their bills.
KEY POINTS ABOUT SOLAR YOU MAY NOT KNOW: @elonmusk
• The U.S. solar and storage industry has generated over $100 billion of private investments in the last two years, and 70-80% of those dollars have flowed to Republican districts.
• America invented solar energy, and now we’re taking it back. When President Trump first took office in 2017, the United States ranked 14 globally in solar manufacturing. Today, thanks to common sense federal tax policies, we are now the 3 largest solar manufacturing economy in the world. Ending these tax credits would upend one of the greatest industrial revivals in U.S. history.
• We need energy like natural gas and nuclear, but it takes 4-6 years to get a gas plant online and 10+ years to get a nuclear plant online. If we want to beat China in the AI race, we need to be aggressively deploying solar + battery storage right now, otherwise we simply will not have enough power.
• Solar and storage accounted for **84% of new grid capacity added in 2024** and makes up **71% of all new generation under development**.
• Without a more gradual phasedown of solar and storage tax credits, we risk a major economic disaster and a dangerous energy shortage. Here is what happens if the Senate doesn’t fix the energy credits in the House version of the One Big, Beautiful bill…
- Your electric bill is going to soar. Analysts predict a $51 billion-dollar increase in consumer electric bills.
- **330,000 Americans** could lose their jobs.
- Over **330 American solar and storage factories** will be at risk of closing or never coming online.
- **$286 billion** in local investment could be erased.
- **173 TWh of electricity generation** by 2030 could be eliminated – that’s as much as the annual electricity consumption of Pennsylvania and Nevada.
- Your energy provider won’t be able to meet skyrocketing energy demand from new homes, new datacenters, and new businesses.
• Solar + storage is energy freedom where it didn’t exist before — for homeowners and businesses alike.
New Englanders know how to crush power grid records. The region did it again, this time 20% lower than last year! Solar and heat pumps are changing consumption patterns, a shining example of how the "U.S. power grid is shifting." https://t.co/8Ov2js4qSJ

Like the last season before a show gets canceled for getting over-the-top and, at the same time, boring.
This election is about jobs, wages, climate, health care, abortion. Not his show. Your life.
While you were talking about the debate, the Supreme Court decided that federal judges, and not scientists or experts, should decide if carbon emissions are actually all that bad.
