“Look Martha, I know I gave you that scoop that we said we kicked you out for, but you got to understand, when the Big Guy says he wants something, we have to listen. Mawmaw taught me what it means to be loyal, even if it’s something you elites in Washington don’t understand.”
Per a note to Boston Globe staff today, the lesbian bar story generated 1,000 subscriptions to the paper yesterday. The Globe’s managing editor said it was “by far our best performing story of the year,” and appears to be “on pace to shatter all sorts of Globe records.”
🇷🇺 Putin’s party wins supermajority in tightly controlled parliamentary election
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party secured more than 58% of the vote in Russian elections, putting it on track to hold over three-quarters of the seats in the State Duma, the Russian parliament’s lower house.
The parliamentary election was the first since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and the first to include residents of four Ukrainian regions annexed by Russia.
Yabloko, Russia’s only registered anti-war party, won no national seats after the Supreme Court removed it from the ballot last month. Russia’s Communist Party, which has been critical of the war, won 40 Duma seats.
@xenocryptsite There's an HGTV show that takes place in Canada all the buyers are Canadian but they speak ambiguously when they say dollars they never clarify whether they're talking about Canadian dollars which the prices must be in and American dollars

America’s longest-running paternity dispute has seemingly come to an end: Thomas Jefferson fathered children with Sally Hemings, his enslaved chambermaid, and the Smithsonian has the DNA to prove it. Richard Kurin, a 50-year veteran of the institution, launched a top-secret study of the question in 2011. Now Jefferson’s entire genome has been sequenced, and compared with those of Hemings’s descendants. A set of newly confirmed Jefferson-Hemings descendants includes Margot Kossmann Williams, a biologist at Ohio State University, and her maternal grandmother, Dorothy McKnight. Julian Lucas talks to Williams and her mother, visiting pivotal sites in the lives of their ancestors. https://t.co/Hk3hbqTKpI
In the 1997 movie “Wag the Dog,” a fictional president starts a war abroad to distract from scandals at home.
“This is ‘Wag the Dog,’ except you start a war with the media,” a network source remarked to me.
A reporter on the Trump beat tells me “it’s very telling that this happened off Karoline’s watch” – indeed, just a matter of weeks after Karoline Leavitt stepped down from her press secretary post... https://t.co/kyGkx6x4Rd
