🔎 Which commonly prescribed drugs are associated with microscopic colitis?

Evidence—particularly for ACEIs, ARBs & statins—has been conflicting. In our large propensity-matched US study of adults ≥50, we found:

📈 Higher incidence: SSRIs • PPIs • NSAIDs
↔️ No association: ACEIs • ARBs • Statins
⚠️ Absolute incidence remained <0.1%

🦠 Active IBD was associated with higher risk of RSV infection compared with nonactive disease.

💊 The increased RSV risk persisted in active IBD regardless of systemic steroid use.

💉 Among RSV-vaccinated patients, infection rates were no longer higher in active IBD.

HE is not just confusion in cirrhosis. It is a multisystem gut-brain disorder with major effects on patients, caregivers, hospitalizations, and quality of life.
