Too many still think of China as it was decades ago instead of the accelerating peer it has already become. China has immense second-mover advantage and they are not afraid to take on the big, bold projects that once defined America...they built a 16 GW dam in 4 years, rapidly ramping all forms of power to meet demand including nuclear (you don't even want to compare timelines or cost between USA and Chinese plants), a ~380 mile water tunnel under construction, the largest ultra-high-voltage grid moving power efficiently, 25,000+ miles of high-speed rail, a planned 100 PW laser, they achieved a record fusion plasma demo, a tested quantum-encrypted satellite network, they for all purposes own global shipbuilding to influence trade, AI on the cheap, operational Mach-30 wind tunnel, already fielded hypersonics and atmospheric waverider weapons, sixth-gen fighter prototypes on display, humanoid and armed robodogs manufactured at scale and a space program with imminent reusable tech, fresh lunar samples (including from the far side of the Moon) and a space telescope project with a FOV 300× Hubble’s and expected at a fraction of the cost. Not to mention, they have line of sight on a moon landing in far less time and lower cost than the 100B we have invested over the last 35 years.
This is the first true geopolitical competitor we have faced since the start of the Cold War--and we don’t want to lose.
@NominalJoe@Comrademarsalex@antiAntiperson Artemis strives to give America and its allies a permanent presence on the moon and to pave the way for the colonisation of mars. And you can’t really do so with a launch every few years. And even in these rare launch there is no communication in what they’ll do once they land
Did the DoD get hit by a ball that makes you stupid? This would be like IBM outsourcing its NORAD and SAGE air defense contracts to the Soviet Union in the middle of the Cold War
How did we get so incompetent?
@WaywardWestern1@CDHenry_PA It's precisely the point, this nation's founding principles are centred around empowering individuals regardless of origin, creed, or race to take charge of their own destiny. It’s about working hard, earning your merits, and rising the social ladder through your own efforts
US government needs to release the Epstein list, and be fully transparent about everything related to this case.
And don't treat the public like we're idiots. Otherwise trust is completely shattered.
It's obvious. Do the right thing.
We are doing it wrong..America added 56 GW all of last year, most from solar... China added 93 GW in a month. Just for comparison, the last American nuclear power plant was completed in 2024. It took 11 years to build and cost $35 billion to generate ~1 GW of power.
@bostonjardin@Truthful_ast High speed rails would just make the system more efficient and take load of road based transportation or whatever it’s called in English
@bostonjardin@Truthful_ast Yeah precision logistics is required for such projects, we must not confuse correlation and causality. It’s not because precision logistics can be used to help central planning that it is always accompanied with it
@wasatch_wind @deltaIV9250 KSA is a spiritual successor to KSP, its goal is to bring aerospace and iterative design to the masses and to inspire the next generation. This design looks cool, though it is Fury-esque, but the ‘orange Pom Pom’ looks cuter and is therefore more appealing to children
