VOCAL Africa stands in firm solidarity with the family of Police Constable Jim Richardson Onkundi as we demand a transparent and independent investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death.
Following a condolence visit by VOCAL Africa CEO Hussein Khalid to the family in Sarara area, Ndonyo village (Waswetatu Ward, Suna West Sub-County), grave concerns were raised regarding official reports attributing Constable Onkundi’s death to a road accident during recent skirmishes in Homa Bay. The officer’s brother, Benjamin Onkundi, noted that the injuries on Jim’s body are entirely inconsistent with a traffic crash, raising serious questions about the true cause of death.
VOCAL Africa calls upon the country’s security heads to intervene immediately, conduct a thorough forensic inquiry, and ensure complete accountability and justice for the grieving family.
Today, VOCAL Africa rushed a civilian to Mikindani Hospital after he was shot, allegedly by a bodyguard attached to the Governor of Mombasa.
Frustrated community members have rightfully condemned the excessive use of force against unarmed youth.
We stand with the community in strongly condemning this reckless violence and are actively following up on the case to demand full accountability and justice for the victim.
VOCAL Africa has logged 92 devastating extrajudicial killings this year alone, 22 Kenyans who walked into police stations alive only to leave in body bags and 70 innocent souls shot by live ammunition on our streets.
🚨 URGENT APPEAL!!!!!
We have officially written to the International Criminal Court (ICC) to place Kenya under close observation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With the alarming normalization of organized political goonism, unchecked inflammatory rhetoric and paralyzing institutional failure, the warning signs are clear and cannot be ignored.
We cannot wait for lives to be lost before taking action. We are calling on the ICC and the international community to monitor this deteriorating human rights crisis immediately to prevent our country from descending into mass violence.

Postmortem results confirm that Eric Muiruri died of two gunshot wounds to chest. From the results, it's clear, Eric was shot from a higher angle. This confirms the mother's earlier claim that the deceased was kneeling before meeting his death.
VOCAL Africa demands justice for the family and calls upon Kanja to see his words and orders to action.
The constitutional right to peaceful assembly and press freedom must be safeguarded without compromise and we call on law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the incidents that happened in Homabay, hold all perpetrators accountable and guarantee safety for media personnel and the public.
2 weeks into August and Kenya has witnessed atleast 5 alleged extrajudicial killings by police, Maureen Nduku, Eric Omondi, Eric Muiruri, Gideon Makau, Simon Kang'ethe and others. These incidences come after the harsh orders from IG Kanja to his juniors.
As we await the actions of those words, Kenyans are left wondering when will police reforms take effect.
Continuing our networking and partnership outreach, VOCAL Africa recently visited Lamu County to connect with dedicated Human Rights Defenders and community activists.
The engagement offered a valuable opportunity to listen, learn and exchange insights on the frontline realities of human rights work in the region.
VOCAL Africa remains steadfast in its mission to strengthen grassroots networks and elevate the voices of community leaders across the continent.
Our latest documentation on extra judicial killings exposes a critical police accountability crisis, recording 22 deaths in police custody and over 70 fatal shootings this year, including 20 during fuel-price protests.
Eric Muiruri's mother was overcome with emotion after viewing her son's body at the City Mortuary. A postmortem for the 21-year-old was conducted today.
VOCAL Africa was on standby to confirm the official cause of death and to demand justice for the grieving family.
VOCAL Africa stands in solemn solidarity with Damaris Kieti and her family following the tragic death of her sister-in-law, Maureen Nduku, who passed away today at Kenyatta National Hospital.
Maureen, a 44-year-old wife and mother of one, lost her life after suffering a gunshot wound fired by police officers responding to an alleged commotion in Gikomba on Monday, August 3rd.
No response to a routine disturbance should ever claim the life of an innocent citizen. We call upon IPOA to conduct a swift, transparent investigation into this fatal shooting and ensure full accountability for the officers involved.
VOCAL Africa has officially launched its county engagements with Human Rights Defenders and Civil service organizations Networks, starting in Tana River County.
We listened to the inspiring stories, wins and challenges of these incredible defenders as we continue working to amplify the voices of community activists and leaders of Africa.
Protests are a constitutional right, not a crime. VOCAL Africa strongly condemns the arrest and harassment of peaceful protesters who are standing up to demand accountability and justice. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of all unlawfully detained citizens.
Exercising basic rights should never come at the cost of one's freedom.
Families of MacMillan Kiarie Mugo, Abdulaziz zizou, Michael Oloo and Evans Otieno have taken to the streets, joining the brave call for justice and the immediate release of their sons.
No parent should ever have to march through the streets to demand the safety and freedom of their child.
VOCAL Africa stands shoulder-to-shoulder with them amplifying their cries until Kiarie, Oloo, Evans and Zizou are safely returned home.
End the enforced disappearances and systemic impunity now.
This is the moment, Erick's brother was overwhelmed during a presser at VOCAL Africa' office. He was later on rushed to hospital and is now stable. Erick Otieno was allegedly beaten up to death at Muthaiga police station.
Driving along the Tana River highway to Hola, our vehicle struck a severe, unmarked pothole that completely destroyed the front rim and ruptured the tyre, a harrowing ordeal that could easily have turned fatal.
This is part of a deadly, ongoing crisis on this stretch of road, where countless motorists have tragically lost their lives due to sheer infrastructural neglect.
@KURAroads, every motorist deserves safe roads, yet the state of the Tana River highway makes travel a hazard. We are taking legal steps to encourage urgent repairs and prevent further close calls or tragedies.
Justice for Simon Kang’ethe and Erick Otieno.
VOCAL Africa stands in absolute solidarity with the grieving families of Simon Kang’ethe, allegedly shot by police in Nakuru and Erick Otieno, a 19-year-old who died following brutal police beatings after an arrest along Thika Road.
We are closely monitoring these investigations and demanding complete accountability. Police brutality and extrajudicial killings must end.
Currently, the family of Eric Otieno is at Mama Margaret Uhuru Hospital, mourning the devastating and untimely loss of their son.
This horrific incident bears the painful hallmarks of systemic police brutality and mirrors past tragedies like that of Albert Ojwang'.
Fabricated charges used to target and extort vulnerable youth must end.
VOCAL Africa stands firmly with the family in demanding immediate accountability and a thorough, transparent investigation
