Can't tell you how much I wish movies like these were still being made.
And these are just a few of my favorites. There's also White Fang, Little Giants, The Sandlot, Blank Check, Richie Rich... the list goes on.
They were filled with real people, real locations, real extras, real friendships, and real stakes (at least when you were 10 years old).
The heroes weren't perfect. Kids failed. They got hurt. They were scared. There was a little light cursing, an awkward romance, and a lot of heart.
I think about when Henry realizes his Mom was actually the star pitcher, or when Junior Bevel sees his Dad wearing a Jamaican Bobsled Team shirt, or the first "Ducks Fly Together" chant.
Today's family movies can still tell great stories, but I miss this era of real life adventures. There was something about watching real kids in a real world that made you believe you could have an adventure too.
Maybe it's nostalgia, or maybe we really did lose something worth keeping.
In Toys (1992), Robin Williams starred in one of Hollywood's most forgotten fantasy films.
Directed by Barry Levinson, it follows a whimsical toymaker facing an authoritarian takeover of his family's toy empire.
The result feels less like a movie and more like a dream.
6/20/1980: “The Blues Brothers” is released. The shuttered Dixie Square Mall in Harvey was briefly brought back to life (sort of)—then they smashed it to pieces. The new Oldsmobiles were in early that year.
When @MyGolfSpy reached out to ask about a driver to test, I was happy to oblige.
Thank You Riscoe at @knottygolf for the help with the black fiber sole inlay.
Looking forward to seeing the testing on this one!
🚨 RAW VIDEO from today’s presser with Mayor Brandon Johnson after weeks of hiding from the press, then he attacks Pres. Trump.
I asked: "Mayor Johnson, you went to Rome with 40+ people. We still don't know who paid for that."
"We don't know what benefits to the City of Chicago have been derived from that. Real Chicagoans are very upset."
I asked whether the hundreds of millions he spent on illegal aliens were more valuable to Chicago than the Bears and the revenue they generate. Word salad is what I got for an answer.
Then, for the second question, I asked whether he and his wife, Stacy, would deploy some of their 150+ CPD command staff officers to help keep Chicagoans safe ahead of Juneteenth.
Then he got defensive and lashed out at Trump.
Mayor Johnson called Pres. Trump "an absolute miserable failure and a disappointment to this country."
So I asked: "Why don't you work with President Trump?"
Johnson's response? "He needs to work with me."
Wow. So Mayor Johnson thinks that he, of all people, is above the President of the United States.
Does Pres. Trump even spend a second thinking about Brandon Johnson? I doubt it.
Who paid for the Rome trip? And what did Johnson bring back besides excuses?
