Lula:

Joel Mokyr, Philippe Aghion, and Peter Howitt have revolutionized our understanding of how economic progress emerges and endures over time.
Joel Mokyr studied economic history in depth and demonstrated that the Industrial Revolution was not a coincidence, but the result of a long accumulation of knowledge and scientific culture that encouraged people to invent and experiment. He showed how the openness of societies to new ideas created an environment in which innovation could flourish generation after generation.
Philippe Aghion and Peter Howitt, in the 1990s, developed an economic model that changed the way we understand modern growth — a growth driven by innovation and creative destruction, where new ideas replace old ones. Some industries disappear, but new and more productive ones emerge in their place.
Thanks to their work, economists and policymakers can now better understand how research, education, and competition drive long-term growth, and why economies that embrace innovation are more capable of advancing and overcoming crises.
Technology advances rapidly and affects us all, with new products and production methods replacing old ones in a never-ending cycle. This is the basis for sustained economic growth, which results in a better standard of living, health and quality of life for people around the globe.
