@CLChennaultAlt The KMT originally wanted opposing Vietnamese parties like the VNQDĐ in a coalition government with the Communist party. Lots of political infighting during this period that gets understated. That’s not to mention Ngo Dinh Diem as a factor.
@Geiger_Capital I hate this narrative. They have a thin /simple/ majority (No senate supermajority) built on people who just barely won their elections in the House and Senate and have to walk on egg shells. SCOTUS is similar with flakey Barrett being rammed in before Biden got inaugurated.
@CLChennaultAlt The four Asian tigers developed largely independent of foreign aid. South Korea and the ROC followed very similar development paths. At most, you can say they had implicit military aid and diplomatic support from the U.S. that provided some breathing room.
@adamlyttleapps There’s a 0.03% chance my son is going to encounter Jeffery Dahmer online, so I hook up my son to the matrix for his protection. Hopefully daily conversations with ChatGPT will make him a well adjusted person.
@kunley_drukpa “Bad Bhunny”, “Daddee Jankee”, and power hungry Democrats are the only things keeping Puerto Rico a household name outside of New York City and the island itself.
@zackdfilms1 The actual reason is because the United States signed an agreement in 1962 that they would recognize the neutrality of Laos. The Vietcong were largely contingent on the success of the Ho Chi Minh Trail that existed in the border areas of Laos. Thus, the U.S. couldn’t stop it.
@trip_to_valkiri Most likely sourced from ROC stocks during the 1947-1949 period. Alternatively could have captured during the Korean War. It was common for older captured weapons to be pressed into militias and other irregular units.
