@ShamashAran@SamStrongTalks@RapidStupid If I'm in front of an otherwise-harmless troon I'll just avoid using any third-person pronouns (not hard to do in that situation), so I neither lie nor start an argument.
But when the person's not present? Not going to bother. I don't care if someone's offended via clairvoyance.
@CishetKris It's because it's too much filler. I feel Toby could've:
- merged Chapters 2 and 3 - make it a Cyber World with a TV studio in it, both with filler trimmed, and
- cut the lame romance subplot and cut *way* back on the non-Flowery flowers' scenes in Chapter 5.
@ShamashAran There's another position - those who view homosexual behavior as sinful. They don't "hate gay people" but view homosexual behavior - at least male homosexual behavior - as morally wrong. (They also view cutting off your schwanstücker as wrong, needless to say)
@KonradCurze_8th@hayes_gens Tbf if I remember the books correctly, the wizarding world seems to have pretty low fertility in general. Weasleys being the exception.
@YRNRSDJ@RHSTUDYZONE But this equation isn't a function. And even if you were to write f(x) = (x - 1)/(1 - x), all real values of x result in f(x) = -1 except for f(1) which is indeterminate. So you'd see a horizontal line with a "hole" in it at f(1).
@v1ral_dogenes@WrathSharp@cherutLmoledet@Haaretz Right. But not general pikauch nefesh. For instance, you obviously can't kill someone to get their heart for a transplant to save your own life.
@WrathSharp@cherutLmoledet@Haaretz Well also because whatever we (America) are doing, it's clearly not working. Our abortion rates per capita are more than double Israel's. Granted that might just be our demographics
@WrathSharp@cherutLmoledet@Haaretz Although as an observant Jew myself I somewhat agree, I do think in general it's good when non-Jews are passionate about their Seven Laws
@WrathSharp@cherutLmoledet@Haaretz Yet the average American right-winger (who is not a fundamentalist Catholic) tends to agree with the Jewish perspective. That is, the left tends to believe in at-will abortion; the right tends to believe in abortion when medically necessary, which is more or less the Jewish view.
@WrathSharp@cherutLmoledet@Haaretz I recall Tosefot argues that there's a reason for this. As it's arguably a *kind* of murder, albeit a lesser kind, non-Jews are obligated to be strict about it since they only have seven mitzvot. For us there are leniencies like pikauch nefesh that normally don't exist for murder
@WrathSharp@cherutLmoledet@Haaretz Depends - some opinions do, others don't. But many who don't nevertheless say that life begins at 40 days, which puts the majority of abortions into the murder category, or at least unlawful killing.
@ArmasLiberdade@BacovcinAkiva I'm sure Rambam knew how capricious governments could be seeing as how he worked in one. The only thing I think he'd find unusual about our modern system is the excessively bureaucratic nature of it
@logosoverflow "Harry! Are you surprised? It's me, Pettigrew...So, isn't this terrifying? I'm terrified too. Voldemort cannot think rationally anymore...His own mind was destroyed by his incredible power. What an all-mighty idiot! Yep, that's what he is! Heh heh heh heh..."
