This is how the question was worded when voters were informed of Platner’s controversies:
"Rumors allege Graham Platner sexually assaulted multiple women & texted “I would rape them to show I’m dominant.” His wife is defending him. Knowing this, who would you vote for in the 2026 Maine Senate race?"
🟦Graham Platner 48.2%
🟥Susan Collins 40.1% (incumbent)
Undecided 11.7%
@aseitzwald Not clear to me what would compel him to drop the race. He's currently lapping his primary opponent -- who has no juice -- and is ahead of Susan Collins. Lots of things would have to go south and quickly to force a change in his thinking along those lines
There are similarities: persuasion techniques, outsider qualities, act as battering rams against old, dead systems etc. There are differences: unlike T, Plat isn’t a cartoonishly corrupt criminal aiming to dismember the US & turn the nation into an African rump state
The Graham Platner candidacy really does remind me a lot of Trump
Senators line up behind him for the sake of the party, partisans furiously defend him, and many dedicated and honest people lighting their careers on fire to try to stop him.
@TheStalwart Might not be the iPhone at all. At least on its own. Could be a combo of the rise of smart phones (of which the iPhone was the 1st) and social media. Both in tandem perhaps spurring social isolation, making coupling more difficult
Being a man without youngsters is like believing you've discovered most of the world that's worth discovering. The nooks, the crannies, the people, the moments. And then becoming bored of it all. Then you have a toddler or two, and realize there are multiple universes left to see
"Men with two children had an estimated brain age that was 0.6 years younger than their childless peers had, and for men with three children, it was 0.7 years younger. That’s similar to the brain benefit associated with exercising 2.5 hours a week." https://t.co/28mz6llyyp
the other odd thing IMO came before the NYT report was published. There were lots of folks on this here website with very distinct and specific political profiles who -- for some reason -- had inside knowledge(?) about the report before it dropped. Quite unusual
This has def been an interesting thing to observe. The right now taking some of the same tactics and lingo that the left employed during the Brett Kavanaugh-era. Shameful stuff back then. Hopefully we don't see a similar thing play out over the next few months

My report from the Platner trail, where he's sticking with his "redemption" message and some Dems say the DSCC caused all this by betting the farm on Mills.
Jordan Wood, who switched from the Senate race to ME02:

@AmericanGwyn Similar in some ways to the Distant Mirror in the sense that it plots city development & urban architecture over the years. Raises insights like the import of Natural Surveillance wherein neighbors keep eyes on the streets, which results in lower crime, healthier communities
Platner's likely to win for one big reason: Like Mamdani & Trump before him, he is PACING & LEADING voters. He's got a feel 4 where folks are rn, & he's validating their fears, diagnosing their anxiety. This, as he articulates a better future. Everyone else is talking at voters
