I agree. It does leave a small painful feeling because we do not expect much from people, but we do expect a sense of solidarity from friends. It is not that they are unaware or afraid; often they know exactly what they are doing. Sometimes people distance themselves when they feel you are no longer useful to them.

Still, every difficult phase brings clarity. It becomes a chance to recognize who genuinely stands by you and who does not. Hard times have a way of filtering people, and that is perhaps one of the few valuable lessons they leave behind.
