To sustain Ethiopia’s rapid aviation growth and Ethiopian Airlines’ expanding global network, a new mega hub is being developed alongside Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, which is nearing its expanded capacity of 25 million passengers annually. This multi-airport strategy aims to future-proof Ethiopia’s role as Africa’s leading air transport gateway.
Bishoftu International Airport (BIA) will be the largest aviation infrastructure project in Africa’s history. It aligns with Ethiopia’s national economic reforms, industrialization agenda, and long-term aviation strategy. The project will strengthen Ethiopian Airlines’ global competitiveness, enhance Africa’s connectivity under the AfCFTA framework, expand trade and tourism corridors, and position Ethiopia as a premier intercontinental hub.
Located about 40 km southeast of Addis Ababa at an altitude of 1,910 meters, Bishoftu offers optimal conditions for aircraft performance and efficient handling of both origin-destination and transit passengers. Proximity to the capital ensures seamless integration with the existing aviation ecosystem. The first phase of the airport will handle 60 million passengers per year, with an ultimate master plan capacity of 110 million passengers annually, placing Ethiopia among the world’s top aviation hubs.
#US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asked #Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali earlier this week to contribute troops to the fledgling International Security Force for Gaza, two Western diplomats familiar with the situation say. https://t.co/FdPmHqjAvm
@Sulamit_Wegahta@AbrarSuleiman Read again. Proper Ethiopia didn’t recognize. Unelected/rebel leader of the non mandated transitional government Ethiopia conspired with unelected/dictatorial rebel leader of Eritrea for his ulterior motives.
From same document, from 🇪🇬ian chef (Boutros-G and cook(Samir S) of UNOVER “It is, therefore, particularly gratifying that Ethiopia was one of the very
first countries to recognize Eritrea’s independence opening the way to its
membership in the international community.” So,🇪🇷’s so called referendum got legitimacy only due to the blessings of the unelected Transitional Government of 🇪🇹…
Africa has spoken with one voice at the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in Belém, Brazil and the world has listened. Ethiopia extends its heartfelt gratitude to the African Group of Negotiators for their unanimous endorsement of Ethiopia’s bid to host COP 32 in Addis Ababa in 2027. We are grateful for the opportunity that the Conference of the Parties is giving us to spearhead the collective effort to tackle one of the most daunting challenges faced by humanity. We are honored to be entrusted by the global community with such an important responsibility. This recognition reflects confidence in Ethiopia’s leadership in climate action and its capacity to host major global events.
Ethiopia remains fully committed to delivering a robust and meaningful outcome and inclusive COP 32 that advances collective action against climate change. Building on the momentum of the Second Africa Climate Summit, Ethiopia will continue to champion Africa as a continent of solutions and a committed partner in the global effort for a sustainable future.
#Ethiopia has confirmed the outbreak that has infected at least 9 people in the south of the country is of #Marburg virus disease.
I commend Ethiopia’s @FMoHealth for its rapid and transparent response to the outbreak, and the work of the Ethiopia Public Health Institute and regional health authorities. This fast action demonstrates the seriousness of the country’s commitment to bringing the outbreak under control quickly.
@WHO, at country, regional and headquarters levels, is actively supporting Ethiopia to contain the outbreak and treat infected people, and supporting all efforts to address the potential of cross-border spread.
Despite Ethiopia’s civil wars and divisions, Abiy Ahmed seems to be building and modernizing his country step by step. Meanwhile, our elders in Eritrea appear more concerned with Ethiopia’s wellbeing than Eritreas own future & that truly hurts. Still, I deeply wish for our neighbors 🇪🇹 🇸🇩 🇩🇯 🇸🇴 to prosper because I believe this region can only rise when we rise together.
At this point it is looking more like current 🇪🇷n leaders don’t have the capacity for economic & institutional building, post liberation era. They stuck with mantra of resilience, forgetting adaptability. In 2018, they had a chance to show some gesture to inspire and instill hope to Eritrean people and HOA, like by pardoning political prisoners, opening up media, telecoms etc. but they live with vendetta. No hint of changing... look at who they are teaming up with…TPLF 🤦 May be it’s about time Eritreans work towards transitioning to new-gen leadership (with no liberation struggle baggage). It will be good for Eritreans in Eritrea, 🇪🇹 & HOA at large. The current leaders can retire & become honorable elders to the state. Otherwise these elders are proving the old saying “you can't teach old dogs new tricks..”
