Many people I’ve met assume I’m high functioning autistic because I have a business.

I always tell them, “I’m really not. Put me in the real world and I can’t survive.”

Nearly every job I’ve had I was bullied. My last job in 2021 tried to force me to quit because I’m autistic.

I can’t survive socially for more than surface level 15 min interactions.

Despite caring a lot about people, I’ve never mastered the art of asking the right questions. People don’t want to just tell you things about themselves, they want you to ask lots of questions so they can talk about themselves.

People feel like I don’t care about them and am self-centered because everything I ask is trying to see if we have a common interest so we have something to talk about. That’s what comes to me instinctually.

It’s made me prefer to just not talk to people on a deeper level in person because I’ve never been able to do the asking questions right. I’ve tried so hard to overcome this and am a really good listener when people tell me things about themselves, but it’s just one of my autistic downfalls I guess.

I can’t read facial expressions and body language either, so I’m extra lost.

How bad I struggle socially has made it really hard for me to exist in the real world, so I created my own little autistic bubble where I flourish.

I’m quite happy alone. Socializing (with allistics especially) just added to my former self-hatred because I could never do things right.

But I like my bubble alone with my cats, my business, and all of you on social media. It’s peaceful. No one around me to make me feel bad about myself.

No amount of trying to mask can make me able to socialize “properly”. All the accommodations in the world cannot fix this for me. I’d still struggle with it.

But regardless, I still wouldn’t want to be anything other than the autistic person I am.
